Instagram engagement rate calculator
Engagement rate is the number brands and agencies check first. Type your averages, or load them from a public profile, and get the figure with a plain reading.
How the engagement rate is calculated
This calculator uses the most common formula: average likes plus average comments, divided by followers, times 100. Some agencies use reach instead of followers, which gives a higher figure; ask which one a brand means.
What counts as a good rate in the UK
| Rate | Reading |
|---|---|
| Under 1% | Low; posts may not reach followers |
| 1% to 3.5% | Typical for most accounts |
| 3.5% to 6% | Better than most |
| Over 6% | Very strong, common on small engaged accounts |
Why smaller accounts often score higher
Accounts with a few hundred followers are often followed by friends and regulars, who like most posts. As accounts grow, more followers are casual, so rates tend to fall. Compare yourself with accounts of a similar size.
Raising the number honestly
- Ask a specific question in captions to invite comments.
- Reply to comments, which often doubles the comment count.
- Post when your insights show your followers are online.
- Use carousels and reels, which tend to draw more interaction.
How bought followers affect the rate
Followers from a package rarely like posts, so a large order lowers your rate unless your likes grow too. Check the ratio checker before ordering a big package.
Engagement calculator questions
Which engagement rate counts as healthy?
For most accounts, 1% to 3.5% is typical and anything above that is strong.
Do saves and shares count?
They matter to Instagram, but they are not public, so this calculator uses likes and comments, which brands can see.
Is my data stored?
No. The sums run in your browser. Loading a profile only fetches public numbers.
